It is May 2016 and it is the commencement of the first class of the 4-year BSIS program started in the Fall of 2012. They are the most competitive candidates in the job market since they are able to understand all the aspects of the information processing:
* Information storage (LIS program)
* Information retrieval (IS program)
* Information diffusion / transmission (Tele program)
They do not only know the concepts only in high level but they also understand the science behind them. They have a set of uniques skills after exploiting the diversity of the faculty comprising the school. For example, they are able to understand the structure of social relationships, as well as model and analyze them with their math skills which are not weak anymore. They are the first real information scientists that understand all aspects of information processing after its generation.
Doctorate students of each of the three programs are able to collaborate with their peers in the other programs efficiently, showing the breadth required in 2016's job market. While they are specialized in LIS, IS or TELE, they can adapt and work on different areas. They are eager to go over their limits and they are able to think out of the box showing enthusiasm for the unknown. They have set their minds that PhD means learning and not applying things that you already know. Mainly, their advisors learn from them and not the opposite. TELE students in particular are also in position to compete with their top peers in other closely related departments (such as EE and CS).
Master students (both Master of Arts as well as Master of Science in Information), not only have specialized through the master courses in their area of interest but they have also been exposed to basic research principals through their involvement in small projects, helping the doctorate students with their research. This also gives another required skill for the PhD students; that of mentoring!
